CLCN5 is a voltage-gated chloride channel protein. Chloride channels have several functions including the regulation of cell volume; membrane potential stabilization, signal transduction and transepithelial transport. CLCN5 may play an important role in renal tubular function. CLCN5 is a multi-pass membrane protein and moderately expressed in aortic vascular smooth muscle and endothelial cells, and at a slightly higher level in the coronary vascular smooth muscle in kidney. It is related with many diseases such as kidney stone, Dent Disease, Nephrolithiasis and so on.
